Grant funding released for rural North Lincolnshire businesses

North Lincolnshire farming businesses are being encouraged to apply for the next round of rural business funding, of which £379,000 has been allocated to the area.

The Northern Lincolnshire LEADER programme received £1.2m in 2016 for projects in rural areas across North and North East Lincolnshire until March 2020. The next round of funding for this year is now open.

The grants help to improve the rural economy by creating jobs, attracting tourists, increasing productivity and business growth.

LEADER is part of the Rural Development Programme for England. Full details on the funding programme can be found online.

Recently the Office of National Statistics announced that the UK unemployment rate was sitting at 5.6%, increasing for the first time in two years. Roughly 1.85 million people in the United Kingdom are sitting without jobs whilst the average rate of pay increases are rising at its fastest rate in the last five years.

Majority of Tata Steel employees vote to strike over pensions

Employees at Tata Steel have voted overwhelmingly in favour of going on strike, as a result of proposals to close the British Steel Pension Scheme. Over 6,000 members of Community, the biggest union in Tata Steel, turned out to vote in today’s ballot, with 88 per cent voting in favour of strike action.

Community general secretary and chair of the National Steel Trade Union Co-ordinating Committee Roy Richhuss said we are on the brink of the first national strike in the steel industry for over 30 years.
